The Grand Finale: Get Ready for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2021

Get ready for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) that will return with a hybrid format for the second straight year in 2021 and will feature a special series on the SCSM Virtual Club (VC).

In addition to the usual challenges and virtual races which will begin in November, this year’s event will end with two Grand Finale celebrations – a Virtual Race (VR) Grand Finale that will take place from 1 to 12 December on the SCSM VC, and an in-person Grand Finale on 4 and 5 December at The Float @ Marina Bay.

The in-person Grand Finale will offer limited slots for fully-vaccinated individuals or individuals with a valid pre-event test (PET) result for the duration of the event to participate in three (3) different categories: 5 KM, 10KM Toyota Ekiden (team of 4).

Participants will once again be able to run through Marina Bay in a display of strength and unity that celebrates Singapore’s resilience amid the global pandemic.

Finisher Medal

While there will be no road closures for the event, prevailing Safe Management Measures (SMMs) will be in place to safeguard the health and safety of all participants.

Those who want to be part of the Grand Finale celebration, but prefer to run at a time and route of their preference, can sign up for the VR Grand Finale featuring the 5KM, 10KM, Half Marathon, Kids VR 1.5KM and Kids VR 3KM from 1 to 12 December.

In the lead-up to the Grand Finale, the SCSM VC will host a VR Marathon in November where registered participants will be challenged to complete the total marathon distance of 42.195KM over multiple sessions.

It will feature iconic running routes in Singapore for participants to try as part of their outdoor running trails.

More information on the routes will be announced on SCSM social platforms later this month. Participants also have the option of purchasing a limited-edition SCSM VR Marathon 2021 medal to commemorate their
achievement.

Along with the run, there will also be a special live broadcast on the evening of 4 December on Mediacorp Channel 5. This telecast walks viewers through the heritage of the SCSM, highlighting memorable moments and stories of those that have been part of the journey.

Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia for The IRONMAN Group said, “We have been working closely with Sport Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Standard Chartered Bank, and all other stakeholders to explore the best way forward for the 2021 edition of SCSM. As the uncertainty of the pandemic has continued, the race will once again be conducted in a hybrid format, as this prioritizes the health and well-being of participants, community, supporters, and employees while still delivering an exciting event experience for all.

“As proven in 2020, creating a unique hybrid event that provides runners with elements of an in-person race they can be proud of, is still possible. We hope that the physical attendance and the thousands running virtually will inspire the community at large to put on their running shoes and challenge themselves on routes which are theirs to run to celebrate the resilience of Singapore!”

Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board added: “Despite the continued challenges of this pandemic, we are glad that this year’s event will give runners an opportunity to run in an in-person event safely while allowing more local and international runners to be part of SCSM virtually. We hope that this event will help keep Singapore top of mind among the global running community and inspire them to experience Singapore in person soon.”

Lim Teck Yin, Chief Executive Officer at Sport Singapore, shared: “The event continues to exemplify the determination to champion a healthy and active lifestyle. We are deeply encouraged by the positive feedback and success from last year’s hybrid format and are delighted that SCSM is returning in 2021 for families, friends, and corporates to run and come together to celebrate. We remain committed to bringing sport back safely and hope to see more individuals develop an interest in the sport, and further grow our
local running community”

Celebrating 20 years of partnership

This year’s run will have additional special meaning as it marks 20 years of collaboration with Standard Chartered as the title sponsor of Singapore’s marquee running event.

Patrick Lee, Cluster CEO, Singapore and ASEAN Markets (Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and representative offices), Standard Chartered said: “We’ve been strong supporters of the Singapore Marathon for two decades. Marathons represent resilience, going the distance, and determination and these are the traits we value at Standard Chartered.

“Sports also foster unity, which is needed especially in such times, and Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is an important community event. While the goal is to stage the best race possible, our priority is the health and safety of runners, supporters, and the community. We will continue to work closely with The IRONMAN Group, Sport Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board and all stakeholders to create a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.”

Participating safely at the in-person Grand Finale

As part of the safety measures, all participants registered for the in-person Grand Finale event on 4 and 5 December will need to be either fully vaccinated or undergo Pre-Event Testing (PET) in accordance to prevailing government guidelines for sporting events. Fully-vaccinated participants will be required to undergo self-administered Antigen Rapid Test (ART). Participants must also use the TraceTogether token or app at the event venue and are required to abide by safe management measures at all times as well.

Registration for the SCSM 2021 Grand Finale events (5KM, 10KM or Toyota Ekiden) will be opened to the public, in limited slots, from today (3 November) at 4pm. Interested participants may also sign up for the CSM 2021 VR Grand Finale categories – 5KM, 10KM, Half Marathon, Kids VR 1.5KM or Kids VR 3KM.

In addition to registering for the event, participants may purchase the SCSM 2021 VR Grand Finaleentitlements and SCSM VR Marathon medals, which are subject to availability.

The SCSM 2021 Grand Finale medal design has also been unveiled and is fronted by the Merlion, a unique and iconic symbol of Singapore, with key landmarks of the city’s famed Marina Bay area such as Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer.

Participants in the Grand Finale will receive the medal and a 20-year celebratory t-shirt upon completion of their run on 4 and 5 December. Participants of the VR Grand Finale categories will also have the option of purchasing the Grand Finale medal as well as the celebratory t-shirt which they will receive via courier service (subject to delivery fees).

Interested participants of the in-person Grand Finale events (5KM, 10KM or Toyota Ekiden) may register and make their payment on Active.com. For those who wish to participate in the SCSM VR Marathon and VR Grand Finale events, they can register and complete their runs on the SCSM VC platform.
